Meaning of Gestures

Body gestures are very important in interviews. Each gesture has meaning. Below is a list of common gestures and gestures dos and don'ts.

Body Gesture 1: leaning forward

If you are sitting at your desk having a conversation with someone and he learns towards you. The meaning of this gesture is that this person is either leaving or about to ask a question. He has something on his mind and is no longer paying full attention to what you are saying.

Body Gesture 2: crossing arms

You and I are having a conversation, we are sitting down and there is not a desk or table between us. We are facing directly towards each other. As you are speaking I cross or fold my arms.This is a common body gesture and itis a negative body gesture that say that I am either bored or unimpressed with what you are saying. If you are trying to convince me of something, then you are failing because folding arms is a defense body gesture that says I'm not taking in whatever you are saying.

Body Gesture 3: crossing legs towards you

You are sitting on a couch or sofa alongside someone. The other person crosses his legs towards you. This is a subtle body gesture that means the person crossing legs is keeping it casual. If the person crosses his or her legs towards you then he or she is trying to keep a little distance between you and him or her. If he or she crosses his or her legs away from you, then he or she is trying to move closer to you and away from the person on the other side.

Body Gesture 4: hands and palms up

You are talking to someone and as you explain your ideas you put out both hands and palms up. Putting both hands and palms up is a good body gesture when explaining because it shows clarification as in you have nothing to hide. You are opening up all that you have to the other person.

Body Gesture 5: ear pulling, eye pulling, collar pulling

You are attending a seminar. The presenters use some of these body gestures such as ear pulling, eye pulling and collar pulling. These basic body gestures suggest lack of confidence and nervousness. Anyone fidgeting with ears, eyes, or collars or fingers while giving a presentation shows that he or she is nervous and not too comfortable talking or presenting.

Body Gesture 6: sitting with hands on knees

You observe a person in a meeting edge towards the front of his chair. Sitting with hands on knees, he seems about to stand. This sitting body gestures means that this person is about to leave and getting ready to get up.

Body Gesture 7: hand gesture & facial gesture

Someone has been asked a question and before replying they stroke their chin. This body and facial gesture suggests that they are contemplating and thinking before answering. This facial and hand gesture is used often especially when the person does not really know the answer and needs to think hard. Stroking the chin could also mean that the person is not really getting the question and needs to think about what to say next.

In an interview, it is best to not stroke chin because it can also be viewed as rude. Sometimes, stroking your chin before answering means you think you are more superior than the interviewer and wiser. Stroking anything is inappropriate in interviews.

So you're not drunk and you've made the effort to polish your shoes. Good effort. Your manner and your dress sense certainly say a lot about you, but your body could still let you down. So sit up straight, and let this blog help you send out the right signals.

An equal handshake

This is a tough one to call when greeting someone for the first time, but if you can mirror their grip it avoids any dominant/submissive vibes.

Relax into your chair

The way you sit conveys a lot of subtle information to the people on the other side of the desk. So don't take the seat like it's Old Sparky, instead use a moment to get comfortable. If you look relaxed, it'll encourage your interviewer/s to feel at ease in your company. Just be careful not to take it to extremes, and kick back like you're at home on the sofa. Flipping the chair round and straddling it is also perhaps just a little too cocksure.

Maintain eye contact

Keep it true and steady, but remember to blink. To avoid that staring-like-a-serial-killer mistake, form a mental triangle on your interviewer's forehead and make sure that your gaze doesn't drop below eye level. Any further south and things start to get a bit intimate, an interest in their mouth may persuade them to think you're hitting on them.

Steer your body

Crossing your legs loosely is fine if it makes you feel happier, especially if you're wearing a skirt, but if you can 'point' at the interviewer with your knees or your feet it shows you're focused right in on them.

Use your hands

If you can be physically expressive as you speak it shows a certain confidence in the stuff you're saying. Use your hands to roll out your answers or give shape to your ideas, and at the very least your interviewer will think you know what you're talking about.

I know how you feel" Then try to think of a quick story or incident that goes with whatever that person's hobby or job is. Keep the smile on your face.

This includes the pennies laying on the street. If you pass a penny on the sidewalk, and your usual reaction is simply to ignore it because stooping down to pick up a penny is not worth the effort, you are telling your subconscious mind that you are not willing to put out effort for money. The amount of money makes no difference whatsoever. The subconscious mind doesn't distinguish between one penny and one million dollars. All it knows is how you feel.
Of course this manifests in many other ways as well. Whenever you do not accept a gift graciously, whenever you do not charge someone for work that you have done for them, or charge them way less than you should because you feel guilty, and whenever you sell a product for less than it is worth because you do not want to charge too much, you are generating the same emotions. So begin to be open to money, in whatever form, and begin to accept it's flow into your life, even if it's only a penny on the street.
How to use: Simply go for a walk today and look for money. You are sure to find at least a penny somewhere. Pick it up and thank the universe for bringing money into your life. Let your subconscious mind know that you are open and willing to accept money from any source.
As well, apply this principle in your working life. If you have been undercharging for your services, raise your prices. If you are not earning what you feel you should, ask for a raise. And whenever anyone gives you anything, especially money, accept it graciously and give thanks.

Sex and Yoga

The male’s dark blue body represents “purusha” -the still witness consciousness.The feminine is “prakriti” - the ever moving, changing material world. The difference between them, spirit and matter creates an attractive polarity which remains in constant “sexual” embrace.

SEX, a kind of YOGA

The word yoga itself implies relationship, and the two becoming one. You begin with you and and your lover, or your body and mind, or ultimately your sense of individuality merging into cosmic unity. You strive for yoga- union, which you experience as wonderful and sublime.

That sounds like love, doesn’t it?

When people ask me about my own practice of yoga I say how yoga permeates everything I do, from the way I eat, to the way I work, my relationships. One of the best fields for experiencing yoga is inside sexual relationship because of the inherant energy of sex. Sex energy can be channeled up for spirituality or down for a simple physical orgasm. Or both. It’s all what you do with it. I consider myself fortunate to have this body and nervous system, and I want to make the most of it during this lifetime.

The right side of your body and the breathing represents the male force whereas the left represents the feminnine. When the prana flows up the central channel of the spine, and both sides of your nose is open equally, your mind is in perfect balance. No male. No female. No duality. The aim of sex and the pulsation of life is the same. We find polarity, feel it’s attractive pull on our psyche and merge with it until we unconsciously absorb that which we are seeking.

In Vedic idea, the masculine energy is the stillness of stainless witness consciousness; called “purusha”. The feminine is the multitude of whatever is viewed, observed, experienced, known, that what is changing… called “prakriti”. It’s simple: if you observe anything, internally or externally, a thought or an object, a dream or a smell, it is the cosmic feminine. The aspect of you who observes, “sees”, and just sees, without analysis, without judgement, without thought, is the masculine. Purusha and prakriti are eternally separate at the apparent level, but at the ultimate level there is only one. In yoga we call this Shiva.

Yet what makes things attractive is polarity. Purusha and Prakriti remain in a continuous love embrace. Purusha continually watches Prakriti and Prakriti strives to be viewed by Purusha. The whole universe is making love where the seen meets the seer. Can you think of the analogies?

What makes your lover attractive is polarity. This arc of polarity is what makes the energy of life, and also to produce life. The masculine and feminine seek each other out to find out what they feel they have been missing. Your lover is that polarity, what you unconsciously seek in the life journey. Ultimately however, you realize within your own Self all that you have been seeking.

In sex, we attempt to join together physically but I would like to say this is only the starting point. Efforts to join, merge together in yoga should be done through yoga techniques. The two of you consciously merge together to a state of nondual awareness, inside of orgasm, using the sexual polarity as the two that must have yoga. As stated before, the male and female are really within your own self, but it may take a few lifetimes of yoga practice to realize this, and to realize the aim of nondual awareness. In the meantime, experencing the bliss to be found through spiritual and sexual yoga will evolve you spiritually, in the same way asana and pranayama works. It’s all experienced within YOU.

Tantric breathing

Warning! Don’t practice these techniques with someone you are casually having an affair with, unless you want the relationship to accelerate. It’s one thing to have sex physically which (this could be argued) one can walk away from and forget the other person within a short while, and it’s another to have sex on an energetic and spiritual level. While taking it higher opens up possibilities, it also potentially deepens the karmic connections you form with the other. Just so you know

The masculine person lays on his left side with his left arm outstretched as a pillow for his left ear. The feminine person lays on her right side, belly to belly. Begin to harmonize your breaths, so that when one inhales, the other exhales. Start to visualize that the feminine exhaled breath exits the left side of her nose (it will after a few moments) and is inhaled into the right nostril of the man and then in exchange the opposite way. It’s like the man sends his solar energy into the lunar woman and the woman sends her lunar energy into the solar aspect of the male.

Once this is established, you can open your eyes and use your left eye to gaze into your partners left eye and meditate in this way. Practice this for a few minutes and I think you’ll surprise yourself how intense and… hmm… this can become.

Interestingly, a little stress may improve attention and memory in the short term. This makes sense from an evolutionary viewpoint. When faced with real physical threats we need to have a heightened awareness and ability to deal with the crisis.

However, most of us in the modern world rarely face real and immediate physical threats, yet we still have the stress response. In fact, we normally have it as a reaction to nothing but our own thoughts. Unfortunately, unlike animals (or our human ancestors) which release the stress and the hormones they create by running away or taking other actions, our stress tends to remain for hours at a time, sometimes getting worse as we have more anxiety-causing thoughts.

The result? Possibly brain damage, the research suggests. Cortisol and other adrenal steroid hormones are released during the stress response, and if the exposure is repeated and for long periods of time, these substances can damage the brain. They can block the formation of new neurons in the hippocampus, preventing the storing of new memories. Some recent research suggest that chronic stress can lead indirectly to cell death as well.

This is especially disturbing because the damage may reduce our ability to creatively solve our problems or even make the changes necessary to reduce the stress which is causing the damage in the first place. In other words, it can become downward spiral of reduced brain function which reduces one's ability to deal with the causes, which then allows for more of the same. It appears that our modern stress does far more harm than good, both to the brain and the rest of the body.
